NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 26 - Narc Kenya has now launched its own Secretariat to coordinate campaigns for the proposed constitution.
The party's National Governing Council (NGC) has named Chairperson Martha Karua as Chief Agent and committee leader of the Secretariat.
“The committee will comprise representatives from each of the eight provinces in the country,” Ms Karua said.
An NGC meeting on Saturday morning also resolved to launch a campaign website to drum up support for a Yes vote on August 4.
At the same time, Ms Karua distanced herself from the endorsement of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta as the de facto leader for the ‘Yes’ campaign in Central Kenya.
She scoffed at Uhuru's endorsement by some leaders, saying it portrays him as a regional as opposed to a national leader
“Although I was invited to attend the meeting, I decided not to since I am a national leader and not a regional one like Uhuru Kenyatta. The meeting also never represented all Central Province leaders,” she stated.
Central Kenya leaders on Friday launched a forum led by Uhuru Kenyatta that will spearhead campaigns for the proposed constitution in the region.
The leaders also used a meeting at Limuru’s Jumuia Country Home to endorse the Finance minister as their leader in the region.
