Housing assistant minister Bishop Margaret Wanjiru is still trailing former sports minister Maina Kamanda in the vote recount exercise of the disputed 2007 parliamentary polls for Starehe constituency.
Out the 14 ballot boxes opened so far, Kamanda who is the former area Member of Parliament maintains a lead of over 1,000 votes.
Kamanda lodged a petition against Wanjiru's election in the disputed 2007 election alleging voter malpractices.
Two weeks ago the court ordered a recount of the votes in 204 ballot boxes with only 14 boxes opened so far.
More anomalies continue to be detected in forms 16A with more irregularities by the electoral agents and presiding officers exposed, as well as faults in the ballot boxes such as broken seals emerging. Voter detail irregularities have also been revealed.
At the current pace, the vote recount and scrutiny exercise is expected to take months. However, on Monday, High Court deputy registrar Stephen Riechi who is conducting the process had asked that the exercise be concluded expeditiously.
According to the results announced following the elections, Bishop Wanjiru, who ran on an ODM ticket, defeated Kamanda of PNU by 895 votes but Kamanda challenged her victory citing falsification of Forms 16A among other irregularities.
