President Kibaki noted that the young generation is ready for a new constitution this year and minor differences should not be allowed to delay the review process.
"Let us not let down the young generation but complete this long journey that was started by veteran politicians like Martin Shikuku," President Kibaki said.
The President was speaking in Buture where he joined family, relatives, friends and other mourners at the burial of Mzee Christopher Ambetsa Oparanya who was Planning Minister Wycliffe Oparanya's father.
President Kibaki, once again, asked politicians to stop political gimmicks at this point by pegging the constitution making on the next elections, saying only God knows who will be the next leader of Kenya.
President Kibaki also reminded all Kenyans to embrace national unite at all times to ensure the country achieves its development goals.
Addressing the mourners, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende echoed President Kibaki's sentiments on the constitution, saying Members of Parliament should adhere to the wishes of Kenyans and ensure the country gets a new constitution this year.
The Prime Minister emphasized that legislators should unite and consult when debating the draft constitution.
On his part, Speaker Kenneth Marende expressed optimism that the 10th Parliament will deliver the long awaited constitution.
The funeral service was conducted by Bishop Rt. Rev. Michael Sande of the Anglican Church of Kenya Butere Diocese who also delivered the sermon.
Mzee Ambetsa was laid to rest at his home in Emang'ala village, Mabole Sub-location in Butere district.
Other speakers included Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Minister Oparanya, Assistant Minister Peter Kenneth and former Butere Member of Parliament Martin Shikuku among others.
The occasion was also attended by Ministers Moses Wetangula, William Ruto, James Orengo, Fred Gumo, John Munyes, Paul Otuomo Soita Shitanda and Prof. Anyang' Nyongo, Attorney-General Amos Wako, several Assistant Ministers, Members of Parliament, several senior Government officials and wananchi from all walks of life.
Earlier, President Kibaki addressed students of Butere Girls High School where he urged them to work hard to excel in their studies as a way of thanking their parents who spend a lot of resources towards their education.
The President also advised the students to shun activities that could ruin their lives but instead embrace virtues that will enable them achieve a better future.
