ITS RAILA 2012

ODM drummed support for the proposed constitution even as Prime Minister Raila Odinga asked Kenya to be vigilant against those out to sabotage the process.

Raila said attempts by some people to sabotage the Draft constitution would fail.

He urged Kenyans to support the document at the referendum, saying it was good.

He said the Committee of Experts has done a commendable job, saying the Draft constitution should be people-driven and not parliamentary-driven.

Raila said after realisation of a new constitution in the county, there would be a level playing ground, and expressed optimism that ODM would win the 2012 General elections.

Raila was speaking during a tour of Oyugis town in South Nyanza yesterday afternoon.

Speaking earlier at the burial of the wife of Mumias CEO Evans Kidero, in Rangwe, Homa Bay, Lands Minister James Orengo, who was among Cabinet ministers who had accompanied Raila, said the document was appropriate for Kenyans as it addressed constitutional issues.

"Something will come out of it between May and June and we are at a critical moment of political dispensation. We will support it ahead of the General Election," said Orengo.

Regional Minister Fred Gumo said ODM had already decided on its presidential candidate and expects Raila, their party leader, to take the mantle in 2012.

Speaking at the same burial, Water Minister Charity Ngilu said Raila is the choice of the people. She said she will continue to support his presidential bid.

Orengo and Ngilu said the war on corruption must be sustained and condemned leaders who are masters of double-speak.

Corrupt-free country

Orengo said he will continue to fight corrupt leaders until the vice stops. Ngilu wondered why the leadership that had promised fighting the vice had failed.

"We promised a corrupt-free country, but I wonder why we are now changing the goal posts. What kind of leadership are we giving the country?" Ngilu wondered.

Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi said the party would not back track on the new constitution.

Present were ministers Otieno Kajwang’ (Immigration), Dalmas Otieno (Public Service), Assistant Ministers Ayiecho Olweny and Peter Kenneth,

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Raila Odinga will today embark on a two-day tour of Western Province where he is expected to visit several towns.

Mudavadi, ODM Cabinet Ministers and a host of MPs from the province will accompany the Prime Minister.
