Mudavadi has been Minister, Vice President under the former President Moi regime and Deputy Prime Minister under Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader for more than four years.
In these prime positions he held, he gained immense political exposure and must have learnt that in politics, one must fight for what he wants.
But Mudavadi’s recent demands, first in ODM and now in Jubilee alliance where he is a principal leave many wondering whether he has learnt any lesson after all.
Before he left ODM for UDF, Mudavadi claimed that the ODM party wanted to lock him out of the Presidential race through a clause sneaked into the party’s constitution by Lands Minister James Orengo. But even after ODM agreed to amend the constitution to accommodate him he came up with other demands - county level nominations.
Now in Uhuru and Ruto alliance (Jubilee), Mudavadi wants a boardroom agreement (consensus mode) instead of a delegates system to nominate the Presidential flagbearer, in the hope that he would be the ultimate beneficiary.
Mudavadi, who is also the Sabatia MP needs to accept the reality that he must work hard to convince the delegates to nominate him instead of trying to arm twist Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta to step down for him.
Mudavadi should understand politics is a game of brave men who even risk their lives to accomplish their mission.
He should borrow a leaf from Sir Winston Churchill who once said politics is a game of chess for brave men, but not for cowards!
