A presidential hopeful with deep pockets has decided to bankroll another aspirant for the same office on condition the latter does not enter into any pre-election coalition deal. The moneyed politician is concerned the not-so-well-endowed hopeful may join a coalition with politicians the former considers a political threat. The politician has already reportedly made an initial payment of Sh20 million.

Tongues are wagging on why the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission is inviting sealed tenders for the provision of medical cover for one year yet the TJRC is in the process of winding up. Last week, Parliament added nine more months to the lifespan of the TJRC with effect from August 4, 2012, meaning the commission’s life comes to an end on May 4, 2013.

A former world middle-distance runner from Nandi has sent her husband packing over infidelity claims. The man was thrown out of their matrimonial home in Kapsabet after he was accused of engaging in sexual escapades with other women and siring several children with them. We are told the athlete then moved to Nairobi's Ngong training camp for a break. She was later overheard downplaying the incident as a "brief separation".

A PS and the MD of a parastatal last week hurriedly travelled to Eastern province to inspect the progress of a water dam after sleuths from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission started questioning why the project has stalled for almost a year. The top officials were alarmed after being informed that EACC was interested in claims that there have been irregular alterations on the cost of the entire project.
