Corridors of Power

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2012 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
An MP from the South Rift who is a close ally of Eldoret North MP William Ruto is said to have acquired a chopper in readiness for the anticipated “tough” campaigns ahead of the March 4 2013 general elections. The MP, who is said to be eying the senate seat explained to his friends that he needs to lay on an elaborate campaign itinerary as he has to cover a wider area other than just one constituency if he is to be successful in his gubernatorial campaigns. He has already gone into full drive by 'planting' huge billboards in strategic locations of his constituency highlighting the projects funded by CDF.

The decision by roads minister Franklin Bett to quit active politics until 2017 seems not to have gone down well with some of his supporters. A number of them have been heard complaining that the Bomet MP has betrayed the “trust” they had in him. Someof them have even gone ahead to give him a three-day ultimatum to change his mind or forget ever returning to politics.

Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo sees 'unseen forces'  manipulating the ongoing political boardroom deals and numerous cases of betrayal. According to Jirongo, these 'unseen and malevolent forces' want to manipulate the Rift Valley and Western regions which produce 40 percent and 30 percent respectively of the presidential vote to perpetuate a system that he believes favours “ the top 1 percent of the country’s elite.”  "Only three things cannot be hidden—the sun,the moon and the truth. It is just a matter of time before this truth becomes evident to one and all," he said.

A spokesman of one of the leaders of the troubled Jubilee coalition has been sending text messages to his friends disparaging some politicians in the coalition. In one of the messages, the man hit out at some people whom he claimed had been making the loudest noises and yet they were not even members of the party they are purportedly speaking out for!
