PHILLIP Moi on Monday checked into Nairobi Hospital complaining of an undisclosed ailment. For the last 12 days, police have been trying to arrest him after the High Court issued a warrant of arrest for failing to pay child support and maintenance to his estranged wife Rosanna Pluda.
The son of former President arap Moi is admitted at the exclusive North Wing reserved for VIPs where access is strictly monitored. He has reportedly not been allowed to see visitors. "No known family member has visited him but one man has been coming to the room everyday and chatting with him before leaving. I don't know who he is," hospital sources said. They were unable to say what Philip was suffering from.
Nairobi provincial police boss Anthony Kibuchi, who last week ordered police to arrest Philip on sight, said he was not aware that he was in hospital. Kibuchi was attending the burial of Environment minister John Michuki in Kangema yesterday.
Justice GBM Kariuki ordered Philip arrested and held in civil jail for one month for failing to pay Rosanna maintenance payments which have now accumulated to Sh7.1 million. On Monday, Philip issued a Sh540,000 cheque to Rosanna as part payment. Rosanna's lawyer Judy Thongori said Philip would still be liable for arrest unless he paid the amount owed in full.
