VICE President Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday used the Kalenjin vernacular radio station,  Chamgei FM, to woo the community to support his presidential bid. Kalonzo spent one-and-a-half hours to explain himself to the rich vote community as the electionmood grips the country. While pleading for support, the VP told the community toreward him for his loyalty to former President Daniel arap Moi, who ruled the country for 24years.
He also spoke of his healthy relationship with the G7 Alliance, whose leaders, including Eldoret North MP William Ruto and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru, Kenyatta are said to be uncomfortable with him. “I have come here so that we can reason together. What happened is nowwater under the bridge and now what is important is to take this journey together and succeed,” Kalonzo said during Chamgei's Breakfast Show.
The VP affirmed his partnership with Ruto and explained that he wants to regain the support he enjoyed in the Rift Valley prior to the 2007 general election. “I was very popular in the region until 2007 when Rutoannounced his candidature in ODM. That’s how I lost my support but now I am seeking to regain it,” he said. Kalonzo intimated that he is seeking other alliances on top of the G7, which he has been having issues with. “Whether its G7 or G20, I want an alliance of like-mindedleaders whose intention is to achieve a wide mandate to form the next government so as to address the perennial problems of poverty and hunger.”
The VP was put to task to explain perceptions that he couldnot be trusted in light of a fallout with other ODM leaders in 2007. He denied he betrayed ODM, saying he was the one who was heckled by goons during a rally at Khadijagrounds in Mombasa before the elections whose resulteS were disputed leading violence in which more than 1,000 people died and thousands displaced.
Kalonzo assured the Kalenjin that he had always stood with the community leaders and that the government is determined to settle all IDPs in the Rift Valley. “Whether it is those who were displaced during the violenceor those evicted from the Mau, the government will ensure all have a place tocall home.” Kalonzo further reiterated his stand to have all trials related to the violence be done in Kenya, saying he has faith in the local judicial institutions. “I moved a round the globe lobbying for the cases to be referred to Kenyan since I believe it's only a local mechanism that justice can befound and the country remain united,” said the VP added. Kalonzo intimated that he is seeking other allianceson top of the G7, which he has been having issues with. “Whether its G7 or G20, I want an alliance of like-minded leaders whose intention is to achieve a wide mandate to form the next government so as to address the perennial problems of poverty and hunger.”
