The moribund Kazi Kwa Vijana (Jobs forYouth) will be revived by the government in partnership with the World Bank, Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said.
However, the PM explained that unlike in the past, the funds will be channelled to projects targeting the youth directly and not through government ministries.
Addressing mourners at Ejinja Village in Matungu District during the burial of Mzee Alfonze Chitere, one of the sons of the late Nabongo Mumia of the Wanga Kingdom, Mr Odinga denied claims that he was to blame for KKV’s collapse. (READ: Raila on the spot over youth funds)
He said the initiative’s aim was to address the financial needs of the youth by involving them in activities that would improve the country.
“In the new approach, the youth will be reached directly through several projects that target them,” he said.
The PM said bad leadership was to blame for the problems facing the country, such as poverty, disease and illiteracy.
“More than 40 years after independence, we still struggle to fight the same problems the founding fathers of this nation vowed to deal with,” he said.

Mr Odinga said Kenya needs a national leader who will unite the country’s 42 tribes.
Lands minister James Orengo said Mr Odinga can be trusted to ensure the Constitution is fully implemented.
Also accompanying the PM was his wife Ida Odinga who challenged women to fight for their positions in politics.
