The G7 Alliance is assembling a team of non-politicians to help it come up with a structure that will govern its operations ahead of the elections.
The 12-member team will also start talks on whether the G7 Alliance leaders should set up a pre- or post-election coalition.
This comes as one of its key leaders, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, appeared to be changing tact after indications that allies of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto do not want him in the grouping.
On Monday, Mr Musyoka met Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa and discussed this weekend’s G7 rallies in Kitale and Bungoma. Mr Wamalwa was later scheduled to meet Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto in what appeared to be the VP’s strategy to salvage his position in the alliance.
Mr Wamalwa and Mr Musyoka said there was nothing sinister about their Monday afternoon meeting and that Mr Kenyatta as well as Mr Ruto knew about it.
On Tuesday, the G7 leaders were setting up their teams, with Mr Kenyatta said to have settled on three members of his presidential campaign team.
The four politicians have agreed to select three representatives each to the negotiation team that will enhance their unity.
The team is expected to come up with the rules of engagement of the amorphous alliance as it seeks to sponsor a single presidential candidate.

Acting Finance minister Njeru Githae has been selected to lead the political wing of the alliance’s activities, including organising meetings and rallies.
Other members of the team are assistant minister Cecily Mbarire, Isiolo South MP Abdul Bahari, nominated MP Mohammed Affey and Mosop MP David Koech.
According to the Political Parties Act, two or more parties may form a coalition before or after the election.
If the coalition is before the elections, the parties are to deposit their agreement with the Political Parties Registrar three months before and 21 days after the document is signed in the case of a post-election pact.
Last week, Mr Ruto and Mr Kenyatta agreed to go ahead and start modalities of putting together a structure alliance in a meeting attended by Mr Wamalwa but which the VP did not attend.
Sources revealed that Mr Ruto challenged Mr Kenyatta to put together his allies in one political party for ease of negotiations.
