THE government will settle 395 families evicted from Saboti Forest in Trans Nzoia West district in three months, Special Programmes PS Andrew Mondoh has said. Mondoh said the money for their resettlement is available and asked individuals who will benefit to help the government in identifying land where one wants to be settled.
Mondoh was speaking at North Rift regional commissioners headquarters in Kitale over the weekend after meeting with leaders of Deltet and Patwaka IDP camps in Trans Nzoia county. “There is already a task force formed with the responsibility of settling the IDPs. It is not necessarily to settle them in this district but in the district where one has identified land," Mondoh said.
Once the affected identifies land of his or her wish, Mondoh said local arrangements will be done under the area provincial administration on how to purchase land. Each household will be allocated 2.25 acres. He said their resettlement will go alongside those evicted from Emboubut and Mau in Rift Valley.
