THE Government has set aside Sh1 billion to buy alternative land to resettle families that were evicted from Mau Forest . Speaking yesterday during a two-day stakeholder’s workshop on conserving the environment at Egerton University, Njoro, the chairman of the Mau Coordinating Secretariat Noor Hassan said an additional Sh3 billion is being sourced from Treasury to compensate those who legally own land in Maasai Mau. “We are committed to conserving environment and rehabilitating River Njoro which serves residents in Nakuru town and Lake Nakuru famous for the flamingoes in the tourist circuit,. Njoro River is important and we need to conserve it for the sake of our livelihoods and for the wildlife that earns foreign exchange to the country,’'' said Noor.
