Saitoti, Ruto alliance in the offing, MP hints

By Peter Mutai

An MP allied to Internal Security minister George Saitoti has hinted they are working on a political alliance between him and Eldoret North MP William Ruto.
Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchellah disclosed that talks between Mr Ruto and Prof Saitoti are at an advanced stage to explore possibilities of the two forming an alliance.
"We have sat with Ruto and Saitoti and reached an agreement to form a strong coalition between our political parties so that we can win the presidency and form the next Government," he said at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kericho town during a meeting of PNU delegates.
The MP called on residents of Rift Valley to rally behind the two leaders by supporting them in their quest.
Mr Konchellah, who was accompanied by PNU national organising secretary Peter Sapalan, was addressing more than 160 delegates drawn from Bomet and Kericho counties during a meeting called by the party to strategise on membership recruitment drive.
"We want residents of Rift Valley to unite and work as a team in ensuring that the presidency comes to Rift Valley. We in PNU believe that the only party which we can enter into a coalition with is United Republican Party," the MP added.
Peace prevails
He said Saitoti, who is also PNU chairman, was an experienced politician having worked as vice-president for 13 years under former President Moi. Mr Sapalan, who is in charge of Saitoti’s presidential campaign secretariat, said they were working on plans to recruit genuine PNU members and respected people to spearhead Saitoti’s presidential campaigns at the grassroots.
"We want all Kenyans to co-exist peacefully and ensure peace prevails during the next General Election to avoid a repeat of the violence witnessed in 2007," he said.
