Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Mutula Kilonzo on Sunday reiterated that assertions by two presidential aspirants that they will vie for the presidency irrespective of the ICC ruling over post-election violence cases were misplaced.
Mr Mutula said few countries would permit the view that a person accused of an international crimes can be on the ballot paper. “None in fact would permit,” he said.
Mr Kilonzo on Wednesday said Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto pronouncements that an ICC indictment would not halt their presidential ambitions was the height of impunity.
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and his Wiper Democratic Party have distanced themselves from Mr Kilonzo’s comments.
Party chairman David Musila said on Sunday that the utterances do not reflect the position of the party.
