A public debate on boundaries went out of hand in Baringo County when a group threatened an assistant minister in Baringo County.
Justice assistant minister William Cheptumo was whisked to his car before a fight could ensue at the Government Training Institute, Kabarnet, that ended on Friday.
Mr Cheptumo (Baringo North), was addressing residents when they they began shouting him down forcing a commissioner with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Mr Abdullahi Sharawe, to intervene.
According to Mr Cheptumo, Loruk is in his constituency as it is located nine kilometres within the boundary allocated.
“I am a man of peace. Maybe they did not understand what I was saying,” said Mr Cheptumo.
He went ahead to mention the villages and sub-locations within. He said his constituents lived in the area, adding that it would be unfair if it was taken away from them.
Members who disagreed claimed the MP was mentioning areas that were not under his representation.
Higher Education assistant minister Asman Kamama criticised the commission, saying it was using the wrong map in its work.

“This is just a sketch and it was not done professionally,” he said.
Split into two
Mr Kamama supported a proposal by his constituents to have Baringo East constituency split into two — Tiaty and Korossi — citing the vastness of the area.
“If this is not done, then the commission will not have done the right thing. This is a hot issue. We want another constituency because we are the most populous constituency in the county,” said Mr Kamama.
The rivalry between the Illchamus and the Endorois played out in the open as members of the two communities jeered each other.
Members of both groups now fall under a new constituency called Mochongoi. However, they still disagree over several issues.
The Illchamus want the constituency to be named Illchamus while the Endorois are opposed to a change of name.
The IEBC preliminary report has Marigat, N’gambo, Mochongoi and Mukutani as the new wards but the Endorois have called for amendments.
They propose that the list have Mochongoi ward, Illchamus ward, Mogoswok ward and Bogoria ward instead.
