A soldier has died after a Kenyan Defence Forces vehicle was blown up by a landmine in Mandera near the Somalia border.
Four of his colleagues are nursing serious injuries in a Garissa hospital. At the same time, the KDF has destroyed two Al-Shabaab camps in Wamaitho and Kisima near Badade town after launching airstrikes in the ongoing operation linda nchi.
The operation linda nchi continues making strides inside Al-shabaab territory and the soldiers continue sending home success stories from Somalia.
However at around 7am on Thursday, 13 KDF troops on board a service truck drove over a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on patrol in the general area of Mlima Fisi in Mandera.
Following this incident, 5 KDF soldiers were seriously injured and were airlifted to Garissa for treatment, one of them succumbed to his injuries. Military spokesman Emmanuel Chirchir confirmed the incident in a statement to newsrooms.
According to Chirchir, KDF airstrikes successfully destroyed two Al Shabaab camps on Tuesday, Wamaitho and Kisima near the town of Badade.
The battle damage assessment is yet to be released.
Elsewhere speaking in Naivasha, Mandera central Mp Abdi Kadir Mohammed has condemned the incident while wishing the injured officers quick recovery.
Abdikadir urged the government to protect the people of Mandera saying they have also suffered under the militia
