Over 15 people perish in Naivasha accident

Over 15 people including three tourists died in a grisly road accident that occurred at Karai area along Naivasha-Nairobi highway.
The accident occurred after a lorry heading to Nakuru from Nairobi lost control and rammed into a Nissan matatu and a van carrying some tourists.
Eleven people died on the spot while four others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Naivasha District Hospital.
Naivasha District Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Joseph Mburu said four patients died in the outpatient area as they were being attended to, while one woman later succumbed to injuries at the female casualty ward after the 7: 30PM accident.
Dr. Mburu said eight other passengers who include two children, three women and three men who are still admitted at the hospital are in a stable condition. He said they suffered broken limbs and soft tissue injuries.

Naivasha Deputy OCPD Mr. Korir Mengich said the accident occurred after the a lorry that was headed to Nakuru side from Nairobi developed mechanical problems and veered off and crashed into an oncoming Molo-line Prestige Nissan.
Mr. Korir said a tourist van that was right behind the Molo-line Nissan was also hit on impact, killing three tourists of Asian origin on the spot.
An Eldoret shuttle Nissan which was right lorry was also hit on the impact as the lorry collided with the other two vehicles, killing one person on the spot and injuring several others.
Mr. Korir said the driver of the Molo - line Nissan and conductor of the ill-fated lorry were among those who died on the spot.
One tourist who suffered serious injuries in the accident admitted at Nairobi Hospital in a critical condition. The dead tourists include two women and a child a three-year -old child.
Naivasha DC, Ms. Hellen Kiilu is among those who visited the injured at the hospital this morning to console them.
The dead include six men, three boys and seven females. The bodies are lying at Naivasha District Hospital Mortuary pending further investigations into the accident.
Meanwhile, another accident in Thika has deprived a family four members and injuring one.
Thika OCPD Paul Leiting who spoke to KBC on phone said the members who were in a convoy of over 10 cars were travelling from Nairobi to attend a ceremony in Karendudu village when the driver of one vehicle lost control plunging into Kiama River in Gatanga District.
