Outgoing Interim Independent Electoral Commission boss Hassan Isaack and former Boundaries Review Commission chairman Andrew Ligale are among Kenyans who have applied for jobs in the new electoral body.
Several IIEC commissioners and prominent lawyers have also applied for the positions of chairperson and commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Selection panel
The chairperson of the selection panel, Dr Ekuru Aukot, said four people had applied for the position of chairperson while 427 persons had applied to become commissioners of the new electoral agency.
Those who have applied for the post of chairperson include Mr Isaack, Ms Koki Muli, Ms Consolata Ngondi and Mr Titus Kipkoech Kelong.
Former ambassador Maria Nzomo has also applied to serve as a member of the commission.
The selection panel shall now proceed to interview the applicants in public before handing over names of three persons to the President and Prime Minister who will nominate one to become the chairperson of the IEBC.
The panel shall also shortlist 13 applicants and forward their names to the two principals to pick eight to serve as IEBC commissioners.
Parliament will, however, have to vet all the nominees.
