Kenya's Nicholas Manza Sunday morning broke 22-year-old race record at the Gold Coast marathon in Australia leading a Kenyan sweep of the podium places.
Manza clocked a winning time of two hours, 10 minutes and one second, beating Australian Brad Camp's longstanding mark of 2 hours 10 minutes and 11 seconds set back in 1989.
Manza however missed the $25,000 bonus by one second but was handed a 10,000 dollars bonus by race organizers for setting the record.
"I'm just happy. For me it's so nice (to win)," said Manza after his victory.
"It's very special for me because it's my first time in Australia and I'm happy because I've run the course record.''
Albert Matebor was second in 2 hours 10 minutes and 13 seconds, 37 seconds ahead of third placed Japhet Kipkorir.
Manza made his winning move at the 36km mark, quickly putting 50 metres between himself and Matebor.
He maintained a 100m buffer for the final 6km.
Ethiopia's Goitetom Tesema won the women's race in 2 hours 30 minutes 08 seconds, well clear of Queensland's Roxie Fraser and Japan's Chihiro Tanaka who finished second and third respectively.
