Plot to keep Khalwale out of PAC

Share/Save/Bookmark Political intrigues appear to be keeping Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale out of parliamentary committees. Last week, VP Kalonzo Musyoka failed to move a motion seeking to reinstate him in the house business committee. Kalonzo who is the leader of government business in the house had requested speaker Kenneth Marende to jump the order number nine that contained a procedural motion that would have seen the legislator reinstated into the house business committee and the Public Accounts Committee.
Sources told The Star that some PNU leaders are uncomfortable with Khalwale being reinstated back to the PAC. This comes against the background that some PAC members are planning to reinstate Khalwale as chair of the committee to replace Konoin MP Dr Julius Kones who has been holding the position. Also locked out of the committees is Kerugoya Central MP Joseph Gitari.
Khalwale and Gitari are in parliament courtesy of by-elections they won recently. The sources intimated to the Star that PNU may name Gitari at PAC replacing Khalwale who they wish he be moved to the catering committee.  “I have information from the leader of government business that he is not ready to move this motion today,” Marende said.
Meanwhile, the PNU chief whip Johnstone Muthama had nominated Gitari to the less glamorous catering committee and the committee of Local Authorities and Funds to replace former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua who lost his seat through a court petition. Changes were also set to be made to the Constituency Development Committee where MPs Justus Kizito,Francis Nyamo and John Pesa were nominated. The three are replacing Khwisero MP Evans Akula, Charles Kilonzo (Yatta) and Magerer Langat who was named an assistant minister several months ago.
