Scores of students of Loreto Msongari Primary School who sustained serious injuries in a road accident at the Subuiga junction along the Meru Isiolo road last evening, have been airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.
3 students died on the spot while 30 others were critically injured when the bus they were travelling in lost control and hit another bus before rolling several times.
And this morning at the Nairobi Hospital, the scene was busy as a convoy of Red Cross ambulances snaked into the emergency area carrying injured students of the Loreto primary school.
Anxious parents milled at the hospital to reunite with their children, while some overwhelmed by the tragedy that befell them broke down.
While some of the students were brought in by road, those with critical injuries were airlifted to Wilson airport.
The hospital administration declined to comment until they receive all the casualties and assess their condition.
The students were headed for an educational trip at Shaba game reserve in Isiolo when the brakes of their bus reportedly failed at the Subuiga junction, a notorious black spot.
President Mwai Kibaki Friday sent condolences to the bereaved families and wished quick recovery to those injured.
