The minister had just served sacrament and wine during the church service and partook the remainder.
The alcohol content of the wine could not be immediately established but minutes later, he started behaving badly.
"He started laughing hysterically. He had difficulties getting up from the chair and upon standing he wobbled. The congregation assumed it was fatigue after the long service but rather, the usually quiet and introvert man showed a different side," a witness said.
Matter of football "We were surprised that instead of letting us go home, the pastor ventured into stories totally unrelated to the church. He was not vulgar or abusive but he was overly happy, smiling, belching and wobbling along the isle," a faithful said adding: "He had conducted the service with decorum but he was now turning into a comic."
"At first we thought the Holy Spirit must have visited and was taking control of him but he wasn’t speaking in tongues," another witness said.
He ventured into the English and other European football leagues betting on who was likely to win the league next season.
"It was clear he supported Manchester United," a witness said. He waded into the debate of who is the best player in the planet between Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Christiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid. He kicked an imaginary football and even asked those around him to step aside as he was about to face a penalty."
Embarrassing scene A group of youngsters cheered in excitement but the elderly faithful who were visibly embarrassed attempted to lead him away.
Some faithful tried to close the church’s main entrance to stop people from coming to the compound but those outside came to witness.
The preacher moved from one subject to another including singing hymns.
"He tried all voices. It was comical as he even tried to sing in soprano yet he had this husky voice," said a witness.
It is not known what type of wine was served but a similar incident that took place in a church in Westland’s forced the church to change to wine with little alcohol content.
That time, the preacher used abusive language and his dark side came out. He also reportedly vomited on the pew.
