Dilemma of husband sharing

Maureen has been married to Tom for three years and they have a daughter aged five. According to Maureen, the first two years were good but something went wrong in their third year of marriage. They were busy working and pursuing higher education. As a result, they grew apart. They would constatly fight over money and minor issues like what programmes to watch on television. Things got worse when her husband was promoted. He began to come home late even on weekends.
They asked their families to help but nothing changed. They decided to separate until they were sure of the way forward. According to Maureen, for nine months in 2009, they did not live together but he still supported their daughter financially.
Although she did not get into another relationship, she heard from friends and family that he had moved in with another woman. Maureen had no courage to divorce him. In November 2009, Tom asked her to give him another chance. He claimed he had left the other woman.
She agreed In June, last year, the other woman told Maureen she was pregnant with her husband’s child. When she confronted Tom, he did not deny. He said it happened while he was living with her in 2009 and not after they reconciled. Tom begged her not to leave him and insisted he loved her and not the other woman. The woman gave birth to a baby boy in July, last year, and her husband took financial responsibility. From the time the child was born, Maureen claims she felt she was sharing her husband. Tom rented the woman a house close to their marital home so he could visit his son whenever possible. It is one year since and she is tired of living like a second wife. Tom is now neglecting her and spending too much time in the other woman’s house in the name of spending time with his son.
Important adviceMy advice to Maureen is that while it is noble for her husband to take care of his son, it is unacceptable to play house with the other woman and forget his wife. Though the other woman has his son, she is not Tom’s wife.
Thus her husband needs to set some boundaries with the other woman to ensure the vows made during their wedding are respected.
