Rally drivers converged at the Laico Regency hotel where they condemned what they termed as open molestation of Mrs Tess Wigwe the diplomat’s wife who has accused Dr Wigwe of assaulting her.
The racers who were led by veteran rally driver Orie Rogo Manduli and Rally navigator Abdul Sidi said they were shocked at the comments by the Nigerian Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating that Dr Wigwe may return to Nairobi despite the pending case against him.
“This man has at the moment stopped spousal allowances that were previously channeled through Mrs. Wigwe. He is torturing this woman and as Kenyan women and rally drivers we have come together to give her support so that she doesn’t become a destitute in our country,” Manduli said The Nigerian PS for Foreign Affairs Dr Martin Uhoimoibhi announced in Abuja on Friday that Dr Chijioke was just called for consultations.
“He was not recalled, but invited home on consultations following allegations of wife battery,” Dr Uhoimoibhi told the Nigerian press. His statement is a contradiction of a report issued in parliament by Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Richard Onyonka who confirmed that Dr Chijioke had been recalled.
“There is an increased urge in Nigeria to sanitize this diplomat but we are not going to allow such people in our country and the government of Kenya should stand firm,” Rogo said.
Sidi said that rally drivers have come to the defense of Mrs. Wigwe who is increasingly being isolated by people who want to make her look like the aggressor.
