Share/Save/Bookmark President Kibaki and PM Raila Odinga head to Kisii this weekend for separate church functions. Kibaki will be hosted by Education Minister Sam Ongeri in Kisii tomorrow, where he will preside over a harambee for the South Kenya Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Some leaders in the region are said to have planned to attack Raila whom they accuse of targeting Ongeri in the anti graft war. “We will as the President to ask the PM why he hadn’t demanded the resignations of his minister Charity Ngilu and Anyang’ Nyong’o whose ministries have been dogged in corruption scams,” People’s Democratic Party chairman Stephen Nyarangi said. “We will also take the opportunity to reaffirm to the President that the Kisii people will chart their own political destiny and no one will arm twist us,” he said.
Raila will be hosted on Sunday at a church service at Kiambori Catholic Church by South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya. Nyamweya yesterday said he has ditched Ford People and was open to joining any other political party. “I will not be defending my seat on a Ford People ticket. That is a fact because the party committed suicide during the recent elections,” said the MP who was elected a year ago in a hotly contested by election.
The President will officially open the Kisii Level Five Hospital, then meet students of Kisii University College before heading to Nyanchwa where he will lay a foundation stone for the Adventist Church. In the afternoon Kibaki will raise funds for the construction of an ultra modern office block for the church.
On Tuesday, Ongeri hosted Kisii Professionals for dinner in Nairobi hotel where Kibaki’s trip was discussed. “The President has agreed to honour us by gracing the harambee and that goes a long way in showing how he appreciates the Kisii community,” the minister said.
Ongeri said the Kisii people are likely to indicate to the President their political destiny tomorrow.

Nyamweya will this Sunday host the PM in his constituency. Raila is expected to attend a church service before addressing a rally at Nyamarambe. He will later meet local leaders in Kisii town, Nyamweya said. “I can confirm that I am working with ODM the same way President Kibaki is working with Raila. I have no apologies to make,” said the MP.
Nyamweya was recently named by ODM in the COIC and the MP said: “If ODM has seen me as a potential person to work with, what is wrong with that? If people say I have moved to ODM, so be it.” During his tour, the PM is expected make an announcement over the tarmacking of the controversial Kamagambo-Etago-Mogonga road. The PM is expected to be accompanied by Roads minister Franklin Bett, Public Works minister Chris Obure and local MPs.
