The cutting edge

THEY MUST PAY TAX. MPs should honour the new Constitution by paying tax, says
international tax expert, Prof Ngotho wa Kariuki. The former University of Nairobi lecturer
says: “After all, they are among the highest-paid people in the world and a little contribution to the nation would be useful. Given that the new Constitution is about fairness and equity, it
would be unthinkable for them to argue against doing what every other Kenyan does,” says
Prof Kariuki, whose contact is nwakariuki@yahoo.co.uk.

ARGUMENT PATHETIC. Gwassi MP John Mbadi’s warning that should the KRA insist on
going ahead to recover the outstanding tax from the lawmakers they will become easier to
compromise, is simply outrageous, remarks Creasey Ikoa.
Especially annoying, Creasey adds, is Mbadi’s assertion that if the MPs are taxed just like other
Kenyans, they should not be faulted should they not perform their duties as expected of them.
This is a rather pathetic statement by one from whom good leadership is expected, he says.

I WANT MY PHONE. There is something wrong with the Orange customer reward scheme, says Benjamin Oyor, who has failed three times in Nairobi and five times in Kisumu to redeem his points for a phone.
Oyor, who has 16,945 points, says that in Kisumu, they keep telling him to go on a Thursday and collect his phone, but he gets nothing.
He is now tired of travelling from Bondo to Kisumu and returning home empty-handed, but with hints that something can be arranged if “I talk well”. His contact is Tel 0774080428/0727832400 or benjaminoyor@yahoo.com.

DON'T PARK THERE. Park your car outside the ICEA Building on Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi’s city centre in the evening with any valuables in it at your own risk, warns Joseph W, still smarting from the theft of his laptop and several other items.
The thieves smashed his car window and stole the items on June 21, right in front of Dubai Bank.
He discovered his loss at 7.15pm when he came out of a funeral planning meeting. Apparently, none of the guards stationed at the building had noticed anything, says Joseph.

AIN’T NO JUSTICE. Nancy Edwards is disappointed with the decision by the Joint Admissions Board of public universities to lock her daughter, who scored a B+ of 72 points, out of her favourite construction management course.
“Who will come to the rescue of these students who work so hard to pass their examinations and end up in unmarketable courses, and yet their colleagues from rich families, who managed only C+, get into the best courses in the parallel programme?
This is quite demoralising!” remarks Nancy, whose contact is edwardsnancy63@yahoo.com.
Have a fair day, won’t you!
