REPORT: PM Raila calls for Waki Report implementation.

PRIME Minister Raila Odinga wants the Justice Philip Waki report on the post-election violence fully implemented. The PM said it was unfortunate that the perpetrators of the violence that claimed 1,300 people were still unpunished, three years after the coalition government had been formed.“We want the Justice Waki report fully implemented and those who killed innocent people arrested and tried to appease those who died in the chaos,” said Raila who was addressing a rally at Masinde Muliro Gardens in Kakamega at the weekend.

He said the Justice Waki commission was mandated to investigate the causes of the violence which it did, and identified those behind the chaos as well as making recommendations. He said those who were involved in the mayhem had ganged up to frustrate implementation of the new constitution. “Others have forgotten like warthogs where we came from and are now talking different things," said Raila.

The PM said that he and President Kibaki agreed to have a coalition government after the bungled election to facilitate both administrative and legal reforms to ensure the country did not slide to chaos again.

Raila was accompanied by forty ODM MPs among them Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi and ministers Otieno Kajwang (Immigration), Wycliffe Oparanya(Planning), and James Orengo (Lands). Raila’s speech was briefly interrupted by a snake scare when an object fell from a tree causing a stampede. The PM remained at the dais with his security detail until Deputy Western Police boss William Thwere said all was ok.

Mudavadi demanded an apology from Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to Kenyans for wasting taxpayers’ money on shuttle diplomacy over the ICC cases linking six Kenyans to the post-election violence.“Why should Kalonzo associate Kenyans with a person like Muammar Gadaffi who is killing his own people with bombs in the name of asking him to assist Kenya in the post poll violence cases? He owes Kenyans an apology,” said Mudavadi.
