Share/Save/Bookmark Makadara MP Gidion Mbuvi popularly known as Sonko has dared Prime Minister Raila Odinga to a popularity contest in Nairobi. Sonko claimed that Raila’s popularity was waning because the youth who are the majority in the country had grown lethargic to Raila's brand of politics. He added that the PM was being misled by “his foot soldiers” who have lost touch with reality.
Sonko accused Raila of spreading hate speech by insulting elected leaders under the guise of criticizing presumed tribal alliances. The MP singled out Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang whom he said had a penchant for mocking Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to please the PM and threatened to mobilize youths to “discipline” the minister if he insulted Kalonzo in Nairobi.“I dare Kajwang to insult Kalonzo in Nairobi if he is a brave man. That is when he will know Nairobi has its owners. I have got used to being hauled in police cells and I will just walk out freely on bond,” said Sonko.
Sonko was speaking in Ngiini Village, Kitui on Saturday during the burial of Loice Mutongoi Mang’ole, the mother of former minister, Nyiva Mwendwa.
Sonko caused a stir when he made entry into the burial compound with mean bodyguards in tow as local youths shouted: “Sonko! Sonko!” forcing the speakers to cut short their speeches.
Sonko briefly addressed the crowd in fledgling Kikamba. He cautioned youths against being misused by politicians saying that in the next elections, the youth should speak with one voice.
Sonko called on Kamba MPs to unite and support Kalonzo’s bid for the presidency. Speaking at the same burial, Kangundo MP Jonhstone Muthama criticized Raila’s recent visit to Makueni noting that it was meant to hoodwink the locals with relief food to win their political support.
Muthama said that Raila should be prosecuted alongside the "Ocampo Six." He claimed that Raila’s call for mass action led to the violence that killed over 1,000 people.
