For Mr George Thuo, now former Juja MP, the cold and rainy morning in Nairobi on Friday came as a bad omen.
Ranch deaths: MP in court for incitement
Later in the day, the High Court nullified the election of this parliamentary kingpin for the PNU side of the coalition government. He was a government chief whip.
His deputy, Mr Johnstone Muthama (Kang’undo, ODM-K), will have to take over until the party’s parliamentary group meets to choose a replacement.
Parliament is currently on a six-week break and will resume on June 8. To the 43-year-old politician, the ruling crushed his hope to crown his legacy with a new constitution.
Mr Thuo, who has a heavy presence on Twitter, Youtube, Facebook and his website (www.georgethuo.com), was not prepared for what hit him at the High Court.
He had a vision for his vast Juja constituency, the only one in the country with three universities — two public (Kenyatta and Jomo Kenyatta) and one private (Mt Kenya University).
The vision is right on his homepage: “I would like to thank you all for your support and for giving me the mandate to serve you as your Member of Parliament for the next five years. You did this in a great way and in an overwhelming manner…”
