KILFI PASTORS SAY YES

Church leaders in Kilifi have distanced themselves from those pushing for rejection of the draft law.

The pastors also launched the ‘Yes’ campaign and urged their followers to embrace the Proposed Constitution.

They said they will consult Christians opposed to the draft to discuss the document with them for better understanding.

The Kenya Pastors Convention for Salvation and Reconciliation also said the proposed draft would solve most of the ills facing the country. The group’s Organising-Secretary Patrick Kinagu said the pastors have organised a series of meetings to discuss the proposed draft with several church leaders and the youth.

For Muslims

The pastors’ convention was started in 2007 after the disputed presidential elections and seeks to end wrangles, especially among church leaders.

Pastor Kinagu defended Kadhis’ courts as contained in the draft, saying they had nothing to do with non-Muslims. "The Kadhis’ courts have nothing to do with us. Why demand that they be removed from the draft constitution?" he asked.

He said differences over the clause on abortion were unfortunate because the draft only gives a window to save the mother during a crisis and does not call for abortion.

"The matter is whether to save the mother or the child. We say it will be fine to save the mother and kill the child when there is a problem," he said.
