The militants had also earlier invaded Mangai in Lamu East and dragged men out of their homes to a nearby mosque where they preached from around 3am to 6am on Sunday. They then proceeded to a Mangai dispensary and burnt down a section of the facility as well as some motorcycles used by staff. They also burnt down a section of the Mangai secondary school dormitory.
The incident comes just as residents in Mpeketoni are set to commemorate one year since an attack in the area in which more than 60 people were killed.
Unknown gunmen invaded Mpeketoni area between June 15 and 17,2014 and also burnt down buildings and vehicles during the attack.
