Kangundo MP Johnstone Muthama has accused Narc leader Charity Ngilu of being a 'political dealer' following her recent defection to the Jubilee Coalition.
Mr Muthama, a close ally of Prime Minister Raila Odinga and an architect of the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord), said Ms Ngilu’s defection from the coalition painted a picture of shaky leadership on her part.
“Kenyans should differentiate between political dealers and the real leaders. Most of these politicians are out to serve their interests and not the people of Kenya,” Mr Muthama said at his offices in Gigiri, Nairobi.
“When you see a leader hopping from one party to another, ask yourself what is this person up to? Is it for personal gain or for the people?” he said.
Ms Ngilu, the Presidential flag-bearer of Narc party recently defected from Cord to join Jubilee Coalition whose The National Alliance Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta and United Democratic Front’s Musalia Mudavadi are on Monday expected to pick the coalition leader.
Ms Ngilu said she defected to the Jubilee Coalition because she was treated as a junior partner in the Cord alliance. Read (Jubilee can’t survive long without me, says Ngilu)
However, Mr Muthama expressed confidence that Cord – which brings together PM Odinga of ODM, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trade Minister Moses Wetangula of Ford-Kenya will win the General Election.
He said next week’s announcement of the alliance leader will be a defining moment in the political landscape.
“All Kenyans will witness the kind of leadership that we intend to give this country on December 22 when Cord picks its leader at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.”
Mr Muthama also said defection of Co-operatives Development Minister Joseph Nyagah to Kenyatta’s TNA was “forced by leaders from the region where he comes from.”
“There are certain people from his region who have dictated that he cannot survive if he is not aligned to some other political grouping.”
“This is not the kind of politics that we need to play in this day and age,” he added.
