- Names of three nominees have been forwarded to the House for approval, says Kimemia
President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga have chosen the person to head the police force and forwarded the name to Parliament.
Acting Civil Service boss Francis Kimemia on Sunday said the name had been handed to Parliament Speaker Kenneth Marende.
MPs will then to discuss the nominee and decide his or her suitability to be the next police chief.
“The principals have agreed on a candidate and we have sent the name to Parliament to be debated upon,” Mr Kimemia told the Nation.
In November, the National Police Service Commission nominated three candidates each for the positions of Inspector General of Police and two deputies. (Read: The headache of choosing police boss)
Former Director of Police Operations David Kimaiyo emerged the best followed by Mr John Ochieng while Kenya Airports Police Unit boss Grace Kaindi was third.
Mr Kimemia said the President and Prime Minister wanted to ensure that a new police boss is in office as soon as possible in line with the Constitution.
“The issue of a new police boss is of great concern and that is why the principals want to ensure there is a boss as required by the Constitution and for the sake of Kenyans,” he said.
However, he declined to name the candidate, saying it was Parliament’s mandate to do so.
“(It) will be done on the floor of the House. It is also its mandate whenever a candidate has been short-listed for such posts,” Mr Kimemia said.
The names of candidates for the posts of Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Kenya Police and Administration Police were also handed to the Speaker.
CID boss Francis Ndegwa Muhoro emerged the best for Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Kenya Police followed by Railways PCIO Judy Ndeda Chebet while former Police Spokesman Jasper Ombati was third.
Acting AP Commandant Samuel Arachi emerged the best in the category of those who were interviewed for the position of the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Administration Police.
He was followed by Deputy CID director Gideon Kimilu while Mr David Ngondi was third. The three nominees now await House approval.
