- 29 people suffer minor injuries and rushed to Voi District Hospital
Twenty nine people suffered minor injuries on Sunday morning after a Mombasa bound bus collided head-on with a trailer at Maungu, Voi along Mombasa - Nairobi highway.
Taita OCPD Samson Kine said preliminary investigation indicated that the incident happened after the trailer attempted to overtake a car.
“The driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle on overtaking the car and hit the bus which was heading to Mombasa at around 5am,” said Mr Kine.
He said those injured were rushed to Voi District Hospital by good Samaritans.
“The driver of the trailer and his colleague were critically injured and were referred to a Mombasa hospital for specialised treatment,” said Mr Kine.
Mr Kine said more traffic police officers have been deployed in the area to ensure that all road users adhere to traffic laws.
“As the festive season reaches its peak, we are asking motorists to be on the lookout and observe traffic laws. More traffic police officers are on the patrol and whoever is found guilty of contravening the law will be charged according to the new =Traffic Act,” he said.
