The battle for Raila Odinga’s running mate has intensified after ODM Reloaded team endorsed Kipkelion MP Magerer Lang’at for the position.
Speaking during campaigns in Baringo county at the weekend, team leaders Ababu Namwamba, Millie Odhiambo, Manson Nyamweya and Agustino Neto said the post had been reserved for the vote-rich Rift Valley, and that any politician from the region was fit to hold it.
“The post is up for grabs and it is not a preserve for any senior politician. Even Magerer has got all it takes to be PM’s running mate,” said Mr Namwamba.
This is likely to cause jitters in the Orange party as senior politicians, including ODM chairman Henry Kosgey and Roads Minister Franklin Bett, have been demanding that the PM appoints them to the position.
The ODM Reloaded team urged the Kalenjin community to accept Mr Odinga’s apology, saying that it was for the common good of the community.
Mr Namwamba also confirmed that Mr Odinga had been holding a series of talks with URP leader William Ruto in a bid to form a coalition, but expressed dissatisfaction that the Mr Ruto had remained rigid. (READ: Ruto rules out alliance with Raila)
Mr Magerer urged the Kalenjin not subscribe to tribal politics, saying, they risk being locked out of the next government. “Let’s not be swayed by euphoria. We should work with people from other regions if we are to remain relevant politically.”
