Mudavadi urges caution, says open to pact talks

By Joseph Muchiri
United Democratic Forum (UDF) presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi has asked Kenyans to be careful on whom to vote for as the next president.
Mudavadi challenged Kenyans to think hard and chose the right person who will move the country forward.
Speaking during the consecration of ACK St Philip’s Baricho Church in Kirinyaga County yesterday, Mudavadi asked all aspiring candidates to respect the law, accept and support the person who will win.
The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) said all Kenyans must learn to accept the election outcome and back whoever is declared winner instead of creating violence after being defeated. “A democratic win by whichever candidate will be a win for the whole country. Those who lose must concede defeat and support the winners for the country to move forward,” said Mudavadi.
The Sabatia MP asked Kenyans to make it their duty to register as voters and vote in large numbers for a chance to have leaders of their choice.
Mudavadi noted that the next General Election was just 14 weeks away when a new leadership will be ushered in.
He said the person who takes over the next government should be one who supports entrepreneurs by creating an enabling environment, adding that he was up to the task.
The DPM said he was open to talks with friends in other parties to ensure unity of purpose towards electing a leadership that peacefully transits the country to new ways of doing things.
Doors open
“I remain open, will continue and will not tire to encourage discussions that will lead to a peaceful election and stable Kenya. I have not closed the door even to my brother Uhuru,” he said referring to The National Alliance (TNA) party presidential aspirant and fellow deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mudavadi was reacting to an appeal by Finance Minister Njeru Githae for a coalition between him and Uhuru.
“You and Uhuru are making it very difficult for me to choose between two friends. But if you unite, you will have the election sealed in the morning of March 4. And I am going to do my best to lock you in a room till you agree,” said Mr Githae who was present at the same function.
Githae said the people of Kiranyaga benefited immensely from Mudavadi’s stewardship when he served at the Ministry of Local Government.
