Ruto attacks IEBC and blamed ECK for 2007 PEV

Friday August 3, 2012 - Eldoret North MP William Ruto has slammed the decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to abandon the electronic voting system to manual voting.

Speaking in Embu County during his presidential campaigns on Thursday, Ruto compared the manual voting to going back toStone Age period where other countries such as Ghana are adopting computerisation.

He called on IEBC officials to ensure elections are well conducted, saying manual voting is vulnerable to rigging.

“It amounts to foolishness not to learn from one’s mistake,” Ruto said.

Ruto who is also United Republican Party (URP) leader blamed ECK’s manual system of voting for leading to skirmishes that followed the disputed 2007 general election.

The presidential hopeful said if elected, he would fight hunger in dry areas and improve the road network in such areas.

He said his record speaks for itself when he was the Minister of Agriculture and provided subsidised fertilizer and seeds.

“When a government is committed to delivering to wananchi, it is possible to acquire farm inputs and machinery, and then start irrigation projects in arid and semi -arid areas to ensure food security,” Said Ruto.

He urged voters to desist from electing leaders who have been mentioned in corruption scandals affecting the country.
