TNA rules out pre-poll coalition

Oloo also noted that the party would field candidates in all electoral positions right from the grass root level to the presidency/FILE
NYAHURURU, Kenya, Aug 31 – The National Alliance party (TNA) is not ready to form a coalition with other political parties until after the 2013 General Election.
Secretary General Onyango Oloo said the party was not going to hurry into signing coalition pacts and emphasised the need to put the interests of its membership and look at what adds value to the party.
He, however, observed that TNA was open to discussing with other parties with the view to forming coalitions after elections but noted that his party was working on ways to strengthen its internal structures.
Oloo also noted that the party would field candidates in all electoral positions right from the grass root level to the presidency and challenged its members to take control of parliamentary agenda by voting MPs on a TNA ticket.
The Secretary General made the remarks on Thursday at the Ol-Kalou ACK church hall after meeting TNA aspirants for the various seats in Nyandarua County.
Oloo at the same time challenged the Registrar of Political Parties to ensure that political parties membership registers are put in order to avert confusions during the elections.
He said the list should be evaluated in time to ensure that members’ names are confirmed.
He also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to reverse its decision to charge exorbitant fees to candidates saying leadership should not be based on money but on the ability and quality of services an individual can deliver in improving the lives of the people.
He said the IEBC was not in the business of collecting taxes and money from candidates but instead should concentrate its efforts in ensuring that elections are done in a peaceful, free and fair environment.
