NHIF gets a new BOSS

NHIF gets a new BOSS

Wednesday 22nd AUGUST 2012 -After a long controversial dispute over the implementation of the sh 4.3 billion civil servants medical scheme, the NHIF has a new boss. Medical Service Minister Anyang’ Nyongo yesterday appointed Mr. Simeon Kirgotty as the chief executive of the National Hospital Insurance Fund. Kirgotty took office yesterday at the troubled organisation.

The appointment of Kirgotty, who was a director of administration in the ministry, comes after the outgoing acting CEO Adan A Adan was summoned to the Ministry of Health for a briefing that took over two hours. Adan was appointed in May to head a caretaker board of the NHIF by President Mwai KIbaki.

Both Kirgotty and Adan are said to have attended the meeting called by Medical service Minister Anyang’ Nyong’o and Permanent secretary Mary Ngari.  During the handover ceremony Kirgotty promised to address the media tomorrow.

The appointment of Mr. Kirgotty comes barely a week after the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) threatened to mobilize health facilities to stop offering services to civil servants and teachers if NHIF failed to pay claims in the next seven days.

Mr. Adan however criticised the press for writing what he termed as incorrect things about NHIF.
