Robert Alai released on a 100,000 cash bail


Wednesday, 22/08/2012 –Yesterday Tech Mtaa blogger, Robert Alai spent the night in police custody at the Kilimani Police Station over what was termed as ‘abusing communication equipment’.

 According to NTV’s investigative reporter Mohammed Ali, a top Government official blocked his release.

The official was identified as the Governments spokesman –Alfred Mutua who washarassing Alai using the police and asked the police to summon him using the Provincial Police Officer (PPO).

Alai was being investigated over a tweet he wrote accusing Mutua of ordering murder of 2 persons. Additionally he was accused of sending Mutua annoying messages. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.

Kenyans on Twitter are unexpectedly quiet.

Alai had earlier on written, RobertAlai Kenya Police testing how #KOT will fight for their rights. It is going to be a vicious fight for this right. #FreeAlai
