AMOS KIMUNYA turns around and disowns UHURU’s presidency

Monday August 27, 2012 - Political intrigues and conspiracy continued to rock the Kibaki’s succession, after leaders allied to the Party of National Unity (PNU) said they will field their own presidential flag bearer in the upcoming poll.
The unprecedented move came barely days after PNU top echelons announced to back The National Alliance (TNA) party presidential candidate Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
PNU Secretary General Amos Kimunya on Sunday said PNU will field its own candidates in the Senate, Governor and Presidential slots in the upcoming poll.
Kimunya’s remarks came barely a month after PNU and TNA signed a pact agreeing on a joint nomination of candidates in the upcoming by-elections and general election.
On Sunday, Kimunya, who is also the Kipipiri lawmaker, stated that PNU will field candidates in the 2013 general election and distanced himself from assertions that they were supporting Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential quest.
This is a big blow to Uhuru Kenyatta and his supporters; since Uhuru has insisted that he would wish to have all parties supporting him under one alliance, arguing that having all field candidates would deny him the majority in parliament if he wins the presidency.
