A somber mood engulfed teachers, students and parents of Rang’ala and Sawagongo High School after they were not ranked in this year’s KCSE results. As songs and jubilations rented the air in Maranda high school after being baptized the best nationwide their academic arch rivals St Francis Rangala girls are crying wolf as their expectation of 10.5 mean score results went in futility.
The school had high confidence with high expectation of 10.0 grade A- and had already painted it on their administration wall. Learning was temporary paralyzed as both parents and students watched in disbelief as their teachers were making frantic phone calls after the education Minister Prof Sam Ongeri released the results of the best schools in the country but their name did not surface.
According to the principal sister Mary Beatrice Okumu said the school had registered 9.7 mean score in 2011 exams and were expecting a positive deviation of 10.5 mean score for the 2011 exams since the last year’s students had proved to be the best candidates ever. The principal said the school was confident of clinching second position in the county after Maranda high school as she added that they had been conducting joint exams with Maranda and was performing better than them.
Parents and students who had gathered in front of a 24 inch screen in readiness of celebration as their name was being read developed a cold feet as Ongeri read the last top 100 schools nationwide without Rangala featuring. The teachers were on the fear that the school results had been cancelled since no student heard received a confirmation in form of a message in SMS service provided by the ministry and had to seek audience with the School principal to take immediate flight to Nairobi to confirm with ministry over the matter. The BOG members convened and impromptu meeting to deliberate on the next step to be taken following the matter.
At Sawagongo, the principal could not be reached on phone with rumors spreading that he was on his way to catch a flight to Nairobi over the same. The area DC Abdirizak Jaldesa said might be a student who was cought with a mobile phone during the examinations was responsible. “If a student is found with examination a normally, the school do is not ranked, but we are optimistic that other students will get their results,”added Jaldesa.
