SOME ODM party delegates have cautioned the top leadership against insisting that the rules be changed in their favour. The delegates from Nyanza yesterday advised the party to forge a common ground and come up with a win-win formula for the top contenders of the party’s ticket. Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his deputy Musalia Mudavadi are leading the pack for the race for the party’s ticket.
Homa Bay branch delegate Hilary Alila, Kisumu county ODM chairman Dave Okwatch and Kisumu Town East constituency ODM chairman John Olum said the party should come up with a common ground to avoid the current differences. Alila said the nomination rules should be harmonised to ensure no particular individual in favoured ahead of the nominations.
He said the current situation where supporters of PM Raila Odinga and Mudavadi are locking horns on which method to apply in the nomination process is unhealthy for the party. Alila said ODM was formed under the core pillar of democracy adding that the nomination rule if not addressed early may ead to more differences during the nominations. observed to ensure nomination rules do not favour one individual. “We must also rush against time to ensure our party constitution is in tandem with the Political Parties Act,” Alila said. He said the old ODM constitution may not just affect nominations of the party's flag-bearer but also thenomination of aspirants for other seats. So far only Narc-Kenya has met all requirements of the Political Parties Act.
