Two political columnists were involved in a serious altercation. The differences between the two, who were present at a function of Mt Kenya, leaders came to a head when one of them dismissed the other as "a tribal chauvinist" propagating a narrow agenda to make one of their own the next President. One of the people who witnessed the exchange says that when the columnist called "tribalist" was asked by the organisers to reply, he cautioned his opponent not to delude himself that he can get people to vote for him "just because he is handsome and writes a few columns". Curiously, by the time he finished replying his opponent had mysteriously vanished from the room.

The commandant Gideon Kimilu of the CID Training School is reportedly one of the candidates being considered for the position of Deputy Director of CID to take over from Futu Mwachai who has left the police service to make his debut in politics. The Rift Valley provincial CID boss Francis Njiru is reportedly being considered for the post of Director of Operations to take over from Julius Ndegwa who retired last year. The appointment of the two is reportedly being delayed since the Police Service Commission has not been established.
