Police on Friday raided Mr Philip Moi’s house but did not find him.
Muthaiga police station boss Chief Inspector Johnstone Wanyama went to the house at 6am but the guard, a GSU officer, refused to open the gate.
When he informed his seniors, the Nairobi PPO called the GSU Commandant who dispatched a superintendent and a chief inspector to intervene.
The gate was opened at 9.15am and police officers led by Starehe OCPD Aphiod Nyaga searched the house.
Mr Moi’s 18-year-old daughter could not say where her father was.
Workers gave conflicting information, with some saying he had not been home for four days while others said it was five days since they saw him.
Mr Wanyama had initially refused to act on the order for Mr Moi’s arrest, saying he could only act after Nairobi police boss Anthony Kibuchi gave the go-ahead.
On Thursday, Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere authorised the arrest.
Mr Justice GBM Kariuki ordered that Mr Moi be jailed for failing to pay his former wife, Ms Rossana Pluda, Sh250,000 a month for her upkeep and the couple’s two children. (READ: Philip Moi faces jail over divorce row)
Nairobi deputy police boss Moses Ombati said they were looking for Mr Moi and appealed to the public for information on his whereabouts.
But Mr Moi’s lawyer on Friday said he and his client had not been served with the warrant of arrest. He said Mr Moi was working on a plan to resolve the issue.
Mr Evans Ondieki said from Nyeri he was aware police had been to his client’s house and accused the officers of harassing Mr Moi’s workers.
The lawyer denied Mr Moi had gone underground, but would not say where the son of former president Moi was.
“This case has been going on since 2008, and he is working out a way of resolving it once and for all,” he said.
