Tragedy befell a family in Thika Town on Monday after a man stabbed his estranged wife to death before an irate mob lynched him.
Mr Alfonse Karagu Njaramba, 40, allegedly waylaid Ms Lucy Wangui, 44, at the Landless Estate stage on Thika-Garissa road as she was going to work and stabbed her six times in the chest.
The woman, a teacher at Mary Magdalene Special School in Munyu, was escorting her two children, aged five and 16, to school when the man attacked her in their presence.
She was living with her mother in the estate after parting with the surveyor a year ago.
Thika police boss Paul Leting said the woman was rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital, but was dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding.
In the meantime, a mob that had witnessed the 7.30am incident descended on the woman’s attacker with stones until he became unconscious.
The surveyor was rescued by police before being rushed to the same hospital where he died moments after admission.
The Kenya Anglican Men Association coordinator, Mt Kenya Central diocese, The Reverend Patrick Ndorongo, called on the government, religious leaders and other stakeholders to address domestic violence in the region before it gets out of hand.

Speaking at ACK Kamung’ang’a Church in Kigumo, The Rev Ndorongo blamed husband battery on men who have resorted to excessive drinking, leaving their responsibilities to wives.
“There is a real problem within the family. Husband battery is not only unlawful and barbaric, but against the tenets of Christianity,” he said.
Elsewhere, two people were killed at the weekend in Kisumu.
In the first case, the mutilated body of a driver, Mr Stephen Kenywa, 42, was found dumped in a pick-up at Oile market on Saturday.
Police believe the man could have been killed elsewhere and his body brought to the market to conceal crime.
In the second incident, an unidentified man was beaten and later set ablaze by an angry mob who responded to distress calls by Mr Michael Ogaya, who had allegedly been attacked as he headed to his Nyalenda home.
