The party which Planning and National Development assistant minister Peter Kenneth hopes to use to vie for the presidency has started massive membership recruitment in readiness for the next General Election.
The Kenya National Congress (KNC) started its recruitment last Wednesday and is to end the listing on March 15.
Mr Kenneth said KNC has already recruited at least 1,000 members in each of 17 counties covered.
The Political Parties Act requires each party to have offices and a minimum of 1,000 members in each of at least 24 counties. (READ: Why political parties are in a frenzy to recruit members)
“We expect to fully comply soon,” Mr Kenneth whose party slogan is “key to a brighter Kenya” told the Sunday Nation.
During the recruitment drive, KNC also received applications from aspiring candidates for positions of senator, governor, MP, women representative and county representative.
KNC secretary-general Alice Ng’ang’a said in an advertisement in our sister publication the Daily Nation that those wishing to vie on the party’s ticket must be life members of the party.
Mr Kenneth, who held a cocktail for youth at Crown Plaza Hotel on Friday night, said he was targeting the young generation in his campaigns as they have full determination for change.
Earlier during the day, Mr Kenneth held Town Hall meetings with more than 30 councillors and other leaders from Murang’a County who pledged to support him for presidency.
Mr Kenneth has been to various parts of the country to market KNC ideals and himself as the best presidential candidate.
He has also sought support from Kenyans in the diaspora.
