Thieves kill one of their own after loot dispute

By Antony Gitonga

A fight among a group of thugs over the sharing of crime proceeds ended tragically when one of them was stabbed to death by his colleague in Gilgil town.
Residents of Kambi Somali woke up to a rude shock to find the 20-year-old suspect dead in his house as his accomplices continued to make merry in a nearby bar.
Four suspects, including two women, were arrested following the incident in the sprawling estate better known for crime.
Trouble started after a group of men robbed a reveller and proceeded to the estate to share the loot.
A witness identified as Sammy told how the suspects started quarrelling over how the ill-gotten gains would be shared.
Share the loot
"They had robbed a patron of his mobile phone and Sh1,000, and a quarrel ensued when they started to share the loot," said the witness.
Sammy said the deceased was stabbed in the chest by his colleagues, who left him bleeding profusely.
It was not until the morning that his blood-soaked body was discovered by a relative and a search for the killer started.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Ernest Oponyo said investigation into the issue had started.
He said the four would be charged in court with various offences once the probe was through.
"The four are being held in Gilgil Police Station while the body has been taken to the Gilgil District Hospital mortuary," said the OCPD.
