Shock as another candidate commits suicide in school

By Allan Kisia

A sombre mood engulfed St Clare’s Maragoli Girls in Vihiga County after a Form Four student committed suicide.
The 17-year-old girl, who hails from Kericho, ended her life by jumping into an underground water tank.
Area District Education Officer Pius Ngoma said the girl committed suicide and ruled out foul play.
"Initial investigation shows that the girl was going through problems," he noted.
The education official added that all students at the school had been counselled.
"The board of the school sat down and saw it wise to have all students counselled," he explained.
The body of the student was taken to Mbale District Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The principal, Mary Chepkoech, was too shaken to talk and referred journalists to the District Education Officer.
The incident came barely a day after an Alliance Girls’ High School student committed suicide in Uswo village, Uasin Gishu County.
The student reportedly wanted to be admitted to a local school because she said she suffered nausea during long journeys to Nairobi.
